SVI BREMCO performed tube leak repairs (ASME R stamp welding) and tube replacements at a power plant located in South Carolina. Multiple tubes had leaks and were replaced or repaired.

What Did the Tube and Header Inspection Find?

The team from SVI BREMCO identified several tube leaks that needed to be repaired within the unit at the power plant.

While replacing and repairing the tubes that were initially found to have leaks, one additional tube was discovered to have a hole in the weld. This will need to be addressed by SVI BREMCO during the outage.

What Tube and Header Repair Solutions Were Performed?

Numerous tube replacements were performed to take care of the tubes with leaks. The tasks for this project that were completed included:

  • SVI BREMCO’s team collaborated with plant personnel to discuss the scope of the job and the materials needed. They discussed safety, scope of work, and the plant’s Job Hazard Analysis (JHA).
  • The team located and began the removal of the leaking tubes and received new replacement tubes to be installed.
  • Tubes were squared up and tube stubs were prepared for the coming installation.
  • Demo and installation preparations were completed.
  • One additional tube with a hole in the weld was identified, and plans were made to address a repair after a discussion with plant personnel.
  • The newly discovered tube with a leak was cut and pulled back to see if there was already a plug. There was, so the tube was welded back so it would not move around with the unit running.
  • Overall, six new tubes were installed, as follows:
    • Header C, Row 3, Tube 13
    • Header 5C, Row 3, Tubes 13 & 14
    • Header 5C, Row 4, Tubes 11, 12, & 13
  • Penetrant testing (PT) was performed to ensure there were no welding defects and all welds were dry.
  • The SVI BREMCO team cleaned up the unit and left the power plant with the project completed.
