Bremco, a division of SVI Industrial, recently completed planned outage work at a combined cycle power plant in the Midwest. The outage consisted of normal maintenance, capital projects, and discovery repairs.

What Type of Maintenance and Repairs Were Planned?

The tasks for this project included retrofitting new duct burners, tube work, liner work, piping work, as well as tube repairs to an aux boiler. Once inspection and maintenance were completed, repairs were made as needed.

The duct burner replacement and upgrade consisted of removing the existing supply headers and duct burner runners. During the removal stage, it was determined that a major section of the duct burner roof also needed repair and that was accomplished during this outage. During this re-installation, it was necessary to make modifications to the existing liner system to facilitate the installation of the new duct burners.

The planned outage work also consisted of making cold end liner repairs to ensure that the liner integrity was maintained during operational runs.

A significant number of drains and vents were replaced based on the finding of an independent engineering company.

As part of the planned outage repairs, we made to the superheater section of the auxiliary boiler which required cutting your way in to access the tubes that needed to be repaired and then welding our way out to complete the repairs.

Tube leaks were found in various sections of the unit that also consisted of a number of T91 repairs that we handled during this outage.

What Additional Maintenance and Repair Issues Were Found?

As maintenance and repair work is performed during a planned power plant outage, the Bremco and SVI team may identify other issues that need attention. During outage work at this combined cycle power plant, the following issues were found and repaired:

  • Various tube leaks
  • Tubes that were cracked or gouged by loose false floor support
  • Elevator bracket dropped and pulled away from the stack
  • RH2 cracks in a nozzle to header and tube crack indications
  • Other BOP work identified by the plant

The Bremco and SVI team is a single source that can meet all combined cycle power plant liner/silencer inspection, maintenance, and repair needs. We work with planned outage schedules and strive to prevent any additional downtime, even when our team uncovers additional areas that need repair.
