The SVI BREMCO team performed an exterior inspection and repair of a paper mill’s green liquor tank in Virginia. Many loose and dis-bonded tiles were removed, and portland cement was applied.
What Did the Tank Exterior Inspection Find?

Upon inspection, SVI BREMCO found that tiles making up the lining of the wall of the tank were hard and well-bonded, but with exceptions. The top course had tile that was hollow-sounding and dis-bonded. Seven areas of hollow-sounding and loose tile were discovered of various sizes. The largest area was 36”x6’.
The SVI BREMCO noted that the tile glaze was gone.
The condition of the portland cement joints was mostly good, being hard and recessed ¼” to ½” deep. However, about 150 feet of joints were recessed in excess of ½” deep.
The tank’s concrete foundation and concrete cover were in good condition.
What Tank Exterior Solutions Were Offered?

SVI BREMCO made repairs to the green liquor tank by removing the loose and dis-bonded tiles from the top course and about 200 tiles in the same state from the exterior of the vessel. Then, they applied a bonding agent and used portland cement to fill in those areas.
SVI BREMCO recommended that this paper plant schedule re-inspections of this tank on a regular basis.
