Tucker York

Director- Acoustical Engineering at SVI BREMCO.

Tucker York started with SVI Dynamics (a division of SVI Industrial) in 2016 as Director of Acoustical Engineering overseeing aerodynamic and noise control solutions for the company. Tucker has been part of the noise and vibration control community for over 30 years, spending the last 12 years in powerplant acoustic system integration, focusing on combustion turbine inlet, enclosure, and exhaust equipment design refinement. Tucker has led product development efforts in the areas of absorptive, reactive, and hybrid silencer technologies, expanding design offerings to the power generation market.

Prior to this, Tucker spent ten years in engineering management and business development capacities related to automotive and commercial vehicle sound package and thermal system development. Working with customers such as Chrysler, Ford, Navistar, and Volvo, Tucker and the team he led improved total vehicle noise, vibration, and harshness performance metrics while meeting financial targets for each platform.

Tucker also spent eight years in jet engine noise prediction and test cell design. Working with airlines and jet engine maintenance organizations worldwide, he designed noise attenuation solutions for large-fan and shaft-engine test facilities including air intakes, test chambers, and augmentor tube/exhaust systems.

Tucker has a mechanical engineering degree from Michigan Technological University and a master of business administration degree from Eastern Michigan University. Professional associations include the American Society of Mechanical Engineering (ASME) and Institute of Noise Control Engineering (INCE).

Resolve Turbulent Flow in Exhaust Systems: A Proven Approach

Power plant operators facing persistent silencer failures or reduced turbine performance often struggle to pinpoint the root causes. In many cases, turbulent flow within the exhaust system can compromise structural integrity and operational…

Stopping Energy Loss Before It Escalates: How Thermography Protects HRSG Performance

For any power plant, a key issue is minimizing heat losses to, in turn, maximize the energy available for power generation.  SVI Dynamics is proficient with the technique of thermography to identify locations of excessive heat loss in combined cycle…

Safety, Efficiency, and Outage Prevention: A Case Study in Power Plant Thermography

For conscientious and proactive power station project managers across the country, and even the world, the responsibility to manage the resources and facilities entrusted to their care requires a continual evolution of the tools used. One such…

Maintaining Thermal Efficiency in HRSG Units Using Flow Modifiers

SVI BREMCO was asked to assist a combined-cycle power plant with a complex engineering problem: the removal of a Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG) transition duct turning vane weldment positioned immediately downstream of a 120 MW class gas…

BEM Modeling in Exhaust System Design

To understand and assess dissipative and reactive silencer properties in rectangular or cylindrical exhaust ducts, SVI Dynamics, an SVI BREMCO company, uses a combination of 1-D algorithms, Boundary Element Method (BEM) modeling, and field…

What is an Acoustic Barrier?

Industrial noise control is a huge concern for all industrial plants, including power generation, chemical, and paper mills. There is a wide range of noise sources and acoustic issues in these settings. Machinery in industrial plants often creates…
