This year celebrates a momentous milestone—SVI BREMCO turns 50. This remarkable five-decade journey celebrates adaptability and innovation as the company evolved from conventional boiler work to becoming an HRSG specialist. Their early involvement with HRSGs provides unique insight into both original construction and maintenance, giving them a distinct edge in today’s aging unit market.
Starting as Bremco, Inc.
Bremco was established on March 5, 1976, to provide boiler maintenance services for schools and small commercial businesses, primarily focusing on burner and annual repairs to keep these units operational.
With growth came new ambitions; Bremco pursued “Code Repairs” and obtained ASME and NBIC stamps in 1988, enabling it to perform welded repairs on high-pressure vessels. This milestone opened a new market, particularly as biomass boilers grew popular due to rising oil prices in the 1980s.

Following the market shift, Bremco transitioned from small commercial work to servicing paper mills in the Northeast. High-quality welding in recovery boilers, which required X-rays, became a priority, and Bremco also formalized millwright teams.
Equipped with these specialized skills, Bremco advanced to become a leading contractor in the Waste-to-Energy industry, managing plant outages. As a result, satisfied customers requested extended outage services along the East Coast.

The early 1990s marked another shift when Deltak, a waste-heat boiler manufacturer, selected Bremco for HRSG maintenance due to our expertise in duplex welding. This followed industry-wide failures of stainless-steel feedwater panels and marked their entry into the HRSG market, which they have specialized in since 1999.
Bremco helped develop innovative HRSG maintenance practices in partnership with engineers, including the design of quick-access doors and unique non-pressure parts. Their expertise has been recognized in industry magazines and conferences.

A major development occurred in July 2021, when Bremco joined the SVI family, forming SVI BREMCO and expanding its turnkey capabilities nationwide.

Future Outlook for HRSGs and Power Generation
Going forward, SVI BREMCO’s main market has shifted from conventional boilers to HRSGs, driven by environmental regulations and the efficiency of gas turbines. The building boom of the late 1990s and early 2000s accelerated this change; now, aging HRSGs require more maintenance, fueling demand.
Rising data center construction additionally increases demand for gas turbines, especially combined-cycle units with HRSGs, creating nationwide business opportunities for SVI BREMCO. As OEMs and EPCs focus on new construction, a projected repair-and-maintenance gap creates growth opportunities as the installed base ages and market needs evolve.
